King Ahaziah of Judah
(2 Kings 8.25-292 9.212 272 28)1 Earlier, when the Arabs led a raid against Judah, they killed all of Jehoram's sons, except Ahaziah, the youngest one. So the people of Jerusalem crowned him their king. 2 He was 22 years old at the time, and he ruled only one year from Jerusalem.
Ahaziah's mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of King Omri of Israel, 3 and she encouraged her son to sin against the Lord. He followed the evil example of King Ahab and his descendants. 4 In fact, after his father's death, Ahaziah sinned against the Lord by appointing some of Ahab's relatives to be his advisors.
Their advice led to his downfall. 5 He listened to them and went with King Joram of Israel to attack King Hazael and the Syrian troops at Ramoth in Gilead. Joram was wounded in that battle, 6 and he went to the town of Jezreel to recover. And Ahaziah later went there to visit him. 7 It was during that visit that God had Ahaziah put to death.
When Ahaziah arrived at Jezreel, he and Joram went to meet with Jehu grandson of Nimshi. The Lord had already told Jehu to kill every male in Ahab's family, 8 and while Jehu was doing that, he saw some of Judah's leaders and Ahaziah's nephews who had come with Ahaziah. Jehu killed them on the spot, 9 then gave orders to find Ahaziah. Jehu's officers found him hiding in Samaria. They brought Ahaziah to Jehu, who immediately put him to death. They buried Ahaziah only because they respected Jehoshaphat his grandfather, who had done his best to obey the Lord.
There was no one from Ahaziah's family left to become king of Judah.
Queen Athaliah of Judah
(2 Kings 11.1-3)10 As soon as Athaliah heard that her son King Ahaziah was dead, she decided to kill any relative who could possibly become king. She would have done just that, 11 but Jehosheba rescued Joash son of Ahaziah just as the others were about to be murdered. Jehosheba, who was Jehoram's daughter and Ahaziah's half sister, was married to Jehoiada the priest. So she was able to hide her nephew Joash and his personal servant in a bedroom in the Lord's temple where he was safe from Athaliah. 12 Joash hid in the temple with them for six years while Athaliah ruled as queen of Judah.
Achazia, roi de Juda

Sa mère s’appelait Athalie, fille d’Omri. 3 Il marcha dans les voies de la maison d’Achab, car sa mère lui donnait des conseils impies. 4 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l’Éternel, comme la maison d’Achab, où il eut après la mort de son père des conseillers pour sa perte. 5 Entraîné par leur conseil, il alla avec Joram, fils d’Achab, roi d’Israël, à la guerre contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie, à Ramoth en Galaad. Et les Syriens blessèrent Joram. 6 Joram s’en retourna pour se faire guérir à Jizreel des blessures que les Syriens lui avaient faites à Rama, lorsqu’il se battait contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Azaria, fils de Joram, roi de Juda, descendit pour voir Joram, fils d’Achab, à Jizreel, parce qu’il était malade. 7 Par la volonté de Dieu, ce fut pour sa ruine qu’Achazia se rendit auprès de Joram. Lorsqu’il fut arrivé, il sortit avec Joram pour aller au-devant de Jéhu, fils de Nimschi, que l’Éternel avait oint pour exterminer la maison d’Achab. 8 Et comme Jéhu faisait justice de la maison d’Achab, il trouva les chefs de Juda et les fils des frères d’Achazia, qui étaient au service d’Achazia, et il les tua. 9 Il chercha Achazia, et on le saisit dans Samarie, où il s’était caché. On l’amena auprès de Jéhu, et on le fit mourir. Puis ils l’enterrèrent, car ils disaient: C’est le fils de Josaphat, qui cherchait l’Éternel de tout son cœur. Et il ne resta personne de la maison d’Achazia qui fût en état de régner.
Athalie, reine de Juda
V. 10-12: cf. 2 R 11:1-3. Pr 28:28. És 8:17.10 Athalie, mère d’Achazia, voyant que son fils était mort, se leva et fit périr toute la race royale de la maison de Juda. 11 Mais Joschabeath, fille du roi, prit Joas, fils d’Achazia, et l’enleva du milieu des fils du roi, quand on les fit mourir: elle le mit avec sa nourrice dans la chambre des lits. Ainsi Joschabeath, fille du roi Joram, femme du sacrificateur Jehojada, et sœur d’Achazia, le déroba aux regards d’Athalie, qui ne le fit point mourir. 12 Il resta six ans caché avec eux dans la maison de Dieu. Et c’était Athalie qui régnait dans le pays.
